Today was Zach's first day of his second year of preschool. Make sure you don't forget it's his SECOND year of preschool; he'll remind you if you do. :)
Zach is going to the same school he went to last year, but this year he is going three mornings/week instead of two. He has the same teacher, but is in a new room this year - a bigger one. And another change - more boys! Last year there were three boys in the class of 18; this year there are at least 8 or so (I haven't counted).
I was quite delighted with how chatty Zach was when I picked him up. Last year it seemed like I was pulling teeth to get information, but today he couldn't wait to tell me about his day. He was thrilled to report that he was chosen to be the helper today - since he knew what to do, he could show all the new kids the routine.
Our neighbor gave Zach some homework - to meet at least one new student. Scott liked it, and challenged him to meet at least two. Zach dutifully reported on two new kids - a boy and a girl. Apparently the boy was mean at the toy table... oh well. At least he remembered their names.
Another thing I found fascinating was that Zach had all sorts of information and questions about a girl in his class who has one hand. That may seem appropriate, but this girl was in his class last year. I waited and waited for him to ask me about it, or at least mention it - not a word. The girl's mom came to class today and talked to the kids about it, which she also did last year. I guess Zach had to hear it twice for it to sink in. :)
Let's see... what else? Oh - he learned the creation story today, and was incredibly fascinated that God made Adam out of dirt, and then Eve from Adam's rib. Pretty cool stuff. He was most excited about some sort of bottle they made; we parents have to wait to see it. :)
So Zach is off to a good start. Let's hope they teach him how to smile for the camera at school!!
